Moving into senior living eases loneliness for many older adults, a new survey shows. Over two-thirds of older adults experienced loneliness before transitioning to a senior living community, but that percentage decreased to 42% after the move. Additionally, about 61% reported feeling less lonely or isolated.
Eighty-five percent of residents reported forming friendships after moving in, while 65% found it easy to connect with others. Engagement in enjoyable activities rose by 19%, physical activity increased by 20%, and the sense of meaning or purpose grew by 21%. More than a third of respondents reported improved health after transitioning to senior living, citing better care coordination, medication management, and therapy. Approximately 65% felt their health had worsened due to loneliness and isolation before making the move.
